About Dr. Sheila Loanzon
Dr Sheila Loanzon is a board certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist and a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has over 15 years of professional and personal experience with the diagnosis of herpes as a physician and a patient.
Dr Loanzon was raised in San Jose, California by immigrant Filipino parents who instilled in her the power of education, communication, and hard work. She successfully completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Vassar College in 2002, where she received the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship in Rome, Italy and the Olive M. Lammert Book Prize for excellence in Biochemistry.
Shortly after college graduation, she was nominated as a delegate to the International Mission on Medicine to China based on academic achievement, leadership ability, and dedication to the medical profession. During this four-week course, she learned that the body as a whole is intimately connected, and has the potential to cure its own diseases. She discovered that non-traditional medicine and Western medicine should exist side by side, as both have their advantages, and thus her interest in osteopathic medicine began.
Dr Loanzon graduated medical school from Western University- College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California in 2007. Osteopathic medical school appealed to her because it combines a symptom-based approach with the holistic perception of medicine, offering great versatility. She received several awards in medical school, including the Obstetrics and Gynecology Excellence Award, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Award, and the Rotary Club of Pomona Community Service Award.
She completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, graduating as Chief Resident in 2011. After residency she joined a large multi-specialty medical practice in northern California. During her five years there, she has performed complicated gynecologic surgeries as part of the select, minimally invasive surgical team, and developed a growing office practice with beloved obstetric and gynecologic patients.
On July 14, 2016, Dr Loanzon published her first book, Yes, I Have Herpes: A Gynecologist’s Perspective In and Out of the Stirrups.
